In His Own Words
What Dr. Zach Alleman says about being a kids dentist in Greeley
What do you like most about pediatric dentistry?
“I get a laugh out of something a patient says every day. I get to work with my team to make something that can seem very hard and scary be fun and exciting. There is no better feeling than seeing a kid outperform their expectations. We have an awesome team who are so good at what they do and make the day fun.”
In your view, how is pediatric dentistry different from general dentistry?
“We have the best patients. We get to shape the habits and future health of these kids that will hopefully lead to a lifetime of healthy smiles. “
Why is pediatric dentistry important?
“Kids are not mini adults. They experience these appointments in their own unique way. Our office is designed to help a kiddo feel at home when they walk in the door. Baby teeth are also not just smaller versions of permanent teeth. The anatomy is different and the treatment needs are handled differently than adult teeth. By treating them every day we know the most appropriate treatment for each situation.”
What is one of your favorite work stories from being a kids dentist in Greeley?
“There are so many to choose from. I had a teenage patient with autism and non-verbal who was in severe pain on his front teeth. He had previously had root canals on a few of them but everything looked great on the xrays. He had a history of wiggling his teeth so much that they got very loose and was starting to work on one of the teeth. With the teeth in such good shape the only other thing it could be in our minds was a sinus infection. He went and had some imaging done and sure enough he had a really bad sinus infection. He got the appropriate treatment and stopped wiggling the tooth. It was a great day for him, his parents, and us when we could get to the bottom of the issue.”
What do you wish parents knew about their kids’ oral health?
“How important our daily decisions in diet and hygiene can impact our children's oral health. Even though they are baby teeth, introducing decay and a higher bacterial load can have a long lasting impact on the health of the mouth.”
What is your favorite quote?
“The noblest art is that of making others happy.” -P.T. Barnum
